The Day The Data Stream Stopped...

The Day The Data Stream Stopped
by Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies

You know what happens when you ignore a leaking faucet?

Correct, it gets worse and then... the flood gates open and just a wet patch is a total river.  Costing you monies that you can ill afford to spend or even have, to rectify the problem.

The same goes for the  Hacker, Phishers and Man in the Middle Brutal Attackers, ignore them or believe they are not your direct issue and you just cost you and your company everything.

Security is one of those words that mean different things to different people.

Security is the degree of resistance to, or protection from, harm. It applies to any vulnerable and valuable asset, such as a person, information, dwelling, community, nation, or organization.

As we race at hell bent speed to the next event in life, we leave doors open, trip on our own shoe laces, bump into people and never say sorry, losing our way as our batteries do not have enough charge for us to comprehend what we have passed by and totally missed.

Seem familiar?

Security is all about YOU, no one else just YOU!

You are the first to complain when cable television stops working, or the power goes out.  You believe that all that happens to get you through the day is your God Given Right and do not mess with YOU on this subject.  It is NOT!

Sorry, you have been mislead and it is time for YOU to take responsibility for your actions. In fact your whole family's actions and while we are about it, let us include, co-workers, bosses and the company you work for.

It is time to look in the mirror and ask those questions of yourself.

Why do you wait for others to make the first move?

Ultimately when the data stops, it all down to YOU!

WE ARE IN THE NOW AND KEEP YOU; IN THE KNOW...

Are You Ready For The Onslaught of Indiscriminate Violence Being Waged Worldwide?

Are You Ready For The Onslaught of
Indiscriminate Violence Being Waged Worldwide?
by Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies

We are surrounded by physical and cyber attacks worldwide!

Today, Ikea in Sweden?  Why?

"Two people have been killed and another seriously injured in a knife attack at an Ikea store in Vasteras in Sweden, according to police.

The dead are a man and a woman, police said in a statement. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Ikea spokeswoman Anna Pilkrona-Godden said that the Erikslund shopping centre containing the store had been closed." http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33847070

News of incidents travel at the speed of thumbs through social and anti-social media.

Kenya's Mall attack is still on all our minds, attacks on cinema's in the USA are grabbing attention. Whole families being slaughter for no apparent reason and people are silent on the perpetrator of these killings. Someone knew, someone never spoke out or snitched and good have stopped the killing.

Are your ready to be a target in these increasing sporadic incidents? No!

Is your local law enforcement, city/county and emergency departments able to cope?

Do we stand firm and not bow to these excuses for humanity?

Of course we do... We must remove the Fear Factor and Increase the Comfort Zone and we do that by preparedness.

Death will come to us all, but not by the hands sadistic morons who hate everything about the West and not of their religion.

Stand Firm, Stand Tall!

WE ARE IN THE NOW AND KEEP YOU; IN THE KNOW...

Procrastination is Killing Business. Indecision Leads Nowhere!

Procrastination is Killing Business.
Indecision Leads Nowhere!
by Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies

Why are decisions taking so long?  Is it fear?  Should you even be in the job or position in the first place?

Never has the phrase "Time is Money" been so relevant!

Meeting after meeting with a flimsy agenda and hot air from those that either are ignorant of the issues or are fearful of their bosses and do not speak up.

Which is it?  Oh, I forgot, you are a procrastinator and can't make your mind up in a timely fashion.

Information is at your finger tips if you take the time and trouble to seek it out. If you were looking for a lover, it would be a different matter would it not?  The objective is the same, mutual satisfaction in all departments and there is a process to achieve that goal.

No, do not bring flowers to the meeting or use too much perfume or cologne. Use your skills of attraction in other ways to highlight the issues and your ability, with solid facts to make those in the meeting fully understand the solution to the problem or new marketing ways.

John Cleese and Video Arts said it best some forty plus years ago, "Meetings and More Meetings" and the "Meetings and More, Bloody Meetings".

Run more effective, efficient meetings. Covering both face-to-face and virtual meetings, you will have the ability to better prepare, structure, manage and control effective meetings.

Are your meetings a complete waste of your organization's valuable time? Are they lacking in effectiveness and efficiency? Meetings that lack direction and focus are all too common.

Declare independence from the pain and suffering of rudderless meetings, stand your ground and divest yourself of procrastination and Indecisiveness.

That is your First Change Order of the Day!

Now Commit!

WE ARE IN THE NOW AND KEEP YOU; IN THE KNOW...

The Internet Stinks! It is Infested Worse Than A Sewer..

The Internet Stinks!
It is Infested Worse Than A Sewer..
by Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies

When your drains clog, Who You Going To Call?  Companies like Roto Rooter, who will charge you major buck$ for your predicament.  Nine times out of ten, it is the grease that is pour down the sinks that builds and clogs the flow.

Majority of the time Roto Rooter, do it blind, placing a rotating snake in the pipe and breaking partially through the blockage. You can have the blind method or for an extra couple of hundred bucks they have an out-of-date camera system that supposedly sees it all.  Most people do not use the camera system as they feel it is too expensive.

This the same way we are using and polluting the Internet.  What with all the data in motion, Spam, wasted marketing emails and a myriad of new Internet connected devices, it is a Super Sewer that smells and nobody is really out there to fix it.

The Internet is just like your drains, it is what YOU wash down them, that is causing the problem!

Corporate IT departments cannot cope!  The management is behind the times, the allocated budget is so pathetic that all they can afford is the putting out of the fires.  Malware attacks are directed at the servers and on a minute by minute basis, time is spent circumventing the issues and never really fixing them.

The C-Suite of C-Level of a company, including the Board are out date and out of time!  Either do something now or die!  Not an overstatement, just think if you lose all your data on clients, customers, financial records, process designs and it is gone.

The idea of the Internet at conception was brilliant and never envisaged as a multi-level vehicle laden highway.  It is one step away of breaking and breaking us all.  The reliance of the World Wide Web for all we do is alarming, to say the least.

Now the latest surge of more traffic is crowd funding.  Funding of some of the most useless enterprises to man and woman.  Come on, an Internet connected umbrella, just in case you leave it somewhere?

The Internet is being clogged by Apps that are only being created to make a buck and at no cost for the traffic flow. The more devices added exponential increase the risk of being Hacked!

Home security systems touted by cable companies is a prime example, so easy to hack and learn so much about all of your life.  It is a simple means of thievery and you all are signing up for own demise!

We have been telling you about the hacking of cars for over a year,  cars are not hijacked they are hacked!

Simply there are more doors being left open for the Cyber Terrorist to enter!

I mention YOU once so far.  YOU are the key to stability if YOU will realize what YOU are doing on a daily basis is making it even worse.

Really, YOU are the real safety net.  Look at how use to do things and then use logic to see how we are working today.  Yes pure, simple logic will show YOU the answer.

The Internet is tool used by the Hacker, Phisher and Man in the Middle Brutal Attacker and by limiting the access points and shutting the doors quickly will save us all.  Your individual actions will assist us all.

Smartphones which are used for both personal and corporate work are an absolute vulnerability.  In fact, they never leave our sides, do they?  If we separate our voice, (phone calls), emails, texts and document sending and receiving from a device with the Internet enabled, we would be going a long way to stopping the cyber thieves in their tracks.

If we place all devices that are connected to the Internet with more than a password, the world would change overnight.

Passwords are more than obsolete!  2SSL which includes device DNA and one other form is the only way to protect yourselves and employer.

They say a way to a man's heart is through his stomach, simply, the way to a man's or woman's most intimate information can be through the baby camera system, Internet connected refrigerator, the big screen television and your child's X-box, oh, and your car!

We do not want to go back to pen, paper
and typewriter or do we...?

Social Accountability & Cyber Security, We Are All Circling the Drain...

Social Accountability & Cyber Security,
We Are All Circling the Drain...
by Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies

If you are hearing the sound of the water, you are too close and too late!

Socially our overall accountability sucks!  It is what others can do for you and you are never considering what you should be doing for others.

How many warnings of impending doom and gloom can you miss?

Families not just falling apart, blowing up and killing each, there is no more accountability for members of your closest DNA, so it is too late?

Or is it?

Rebuilding the family is a level we must address and rebuild.  It is affecting all that you do, your workplace, attitude towards your employer, customers, social responsibility and cyber protection.

Your usage of the new gizmo with unsocial media through a powerful computer in your hand, the Smartphone, is a major concern.  It is smarter than you and fails you because of your self-centered actions.

The lack of personal cyber protection does not only affect you, it affects us all. There is no "six degrees of separation", we are all connected via the Internet. What you lack to do or do not do, without understanding the ramifications has become more than a major issue and concern, it is an epidemic.

Simply downloading a new App without seeing what that fancy App is looking at and collecting information from your most personal item, the Smartphone is foolish and irresponsible.

You are fodder and income to the Hackers, Phishers, Man in the Middle Brutal Attackers.  They love you because you are YOU are allowing them to walk right in your front door and steal from you, your closest family, friends and workplace.

Corporately we must disconnect the Internet from the Smartphone!  The sending and receiving of phone calls via a Smartphone, texts, emails and the sending and receiving documents is the infectious carrier used by the cyber morons.

If we have any chance of stopping the cyber thieves and terrorists we must change and improve our habits and it starts with our methods of communication.

The answers are within and we know what has to be done to stop the possibility of you being the next target.

More Information is available, including secure Smartphones for all corporations, government and those that wish to remain private.

What Happened to Progress, Listening & Dialogue?

What happened To progress, Listening & Dialogue?
By Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies.

It seems some have become “Know It All’s!

Or, even worse, stating, “Don’t Tell Me What You Know, Have Proven and Works, As I Don’t Care!  “In Fact I Am In Management, A CEO, CFO, Director of Trust & Security, I Am The IT Guru of the Company, I Know It All!

What arrogance!  I spoke with such a person yesterday, in fact every single day, the majority of corporate management have this attitude.

They are the Blinkered Society!

Oh, hard of hearing too!

Do you see that we are accelerating the demise of the respect of the clients who make you the money to build you empires and live the lifestyle?  Those that fit this bill, which they will never admit to, have the audacity not to listen and think that their effluent does not stink?

Progress is with us to stay, folks like Alexander Graham Bell, Tesla, Edison, Leonard Kleinrock, J.C.R. Licklider, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Jimmy Fallon, Jeb Bush and so many more.  What is it with this elitist’s attitude and how it is spiraling out of control because of the arrogance or is it just a human factor?

The Internet has become the stable of all we do and should not be brushed aside or just accepted.  It must be nurtured, protected and used carefully as it is the backbone of future.

So where did it all begin?  The initial idea is credited as being Leonard Kleinrock's after he published his first paper entitled "Information Flow in Large Communication Nets" on May 31, 1961.

In 1962, J.C.R. Licklider became the first Director of IPTO and gave his vision of a galactic network. In addition to ideas from Licklider and Kleinrock, Robert Taylor helped create the idea of the network that later became ARPANET.

In the summer of 1968, the Network Working Group (NWG) held its first meeting chaired by Elmer Shapiro with the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) with attendees: Steve Carr, Steve Crocker, Jeff Rulifson, and Ron Stoughton. In the meeting, the group discussed solving issues related to getting hosts to communicate with each other.

In December 1968, Elmer Shapiro with SRI released a report "A Study of Computer Network Design Parameters." Based on this work and earlier work done by Paul Baraon, Thomas Marill and others; Lawrence Roberts and Barry Wessler helped to create the final version of the Interface Message Processor (IMP) specifications. Bolt Beranek and Newman, Inc. (BBN) was later awarded the contract to design and build the IMP subnetwork.

Just a little background on what you are reading this on, in case you think Al Gore invented the Internet and is most probably the cause himself, of so called, Global Warming.

Security is of the utmost importance.  Remember when they invented the motorized buggy?  Maybe a little before your time, but they made a person walk in front of the buggy and wave a red flag, they thought people needed warning of this new phenomenon.  I am not suggesting that we need red flags or do we?

It is the human element that is the problem!  Human errors cause most disasters and right now hacking, phishing and MIIT Brutal attacks are a major cause for concern.

It is All About Attitude Change...

KEEP YOU; in the KNOW…

Schools, Colleges & Universities Are A Breeding Ground For Computer Terrorists, Hackers, Phishers & Man in The Middle Brutal Attacks

Schools, Colleges & Universities Are A Breeding Ground For Computer Terrorists, Hackers,
Phishers & Man in The Middle Brutal Attacks
By Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies.

Just like the prison system, schools, colleges and universities are a breeding/training grounds for illegal activities.  Not just gangs, drugs, perverted sexual activity, it includes the lucrative computer hacking, phishing and man in the middle brutal attackers.

The Internet connects them worldwide to every opportunity to access corporate, personal and governmental information.  It is not Six Degrees of Separation anymore!  The connections are solid and available.  If they are not sure, there is an under/above ground support network that will teach and share in the massive revenues that are being accrued minute by minute by these criminals.

Computer infiltration is more profitable then the drug or human trafficking marketplace.  It is not just the money being made by the sale of SSN#’s, Bank Cards, personal information, corporate secrets, patents and the inner most working of the Fortune 500 companies. It is the government information that can be used against us.

It is one thing to lose your Driver’s License or a credit card, it is the energy, time, money and pure frustration of replacing them that is a major issue.

Now, if it is stolen via a computer data hack or phishing expedition through someone else, like a retail operation, you still have the same steps to go through with the added concern of all your information is out there being used by criminals.

The sad fact is, you personally and corporations are not listening!

It is SERIOUS and getting worse day by day.

It is not IF it is going to happen to you, it is WHEN!  Then it is too late…

Believe it or not, there are companies who have developed the solution for these issues.  Trusted Device is more than one step ahead of the situation and there to assist with virtually zero managerial impact on the day to day running of your IT requirements. Not a new company, they have been protecting Europe for over twenty years.

Although some schools, colleges and universities will have expensive security in place, that sadly is not doing the job that is demanded today, Trusted Device overlays the existing system without having to replace or make radical changes.

In our case it is Plug and Secure!

Just ask the IT/Trust and Security Director at the University of Maryland how they are feeling regarding the outright criminal act of stealing 300,000 Social Security Numbers and the need now to spending monies on credit protection for those people for at least the next year.  This is a reactive move, which should not be needed if you are PROACTIVE!

Universities have long been a favorite target for hackers bent on pilfering private data for identity theft and exploitation.

Since 2005, when breaches at universities began being recorded, an average of 1,268,394 records have been exposed in the US per year.

Numbers have been declining, however. In 2011, a reported 478,490 records were breached. 2013 it has built yet again and 2014 is not off to a good start!
To complicate matters, higher education has a reputation for employing looser data security protocols in general, making those susceptible to accidental data loss and exposure.

The breadth and volume of personal data collected by universities, coupled with high turnover and a generally technically un-savvy population, makes the problem of data loss at institutions nearly epidemic in nature.

A prominent educational group suffered damages from highly skilled students hacking their network, allowing them to change student grades and accessing upcoming tests and exams.

Investigating the source of the hacks revealed that students hacked the login web-portal installing Trojans on teacher/professor computers to obtain their usernames/passwords.

During an initial pilot program of 30.000 teachers and professors, Trusted Device’ s solutions provided all known and identified laptops, tablets and smartphones with short lived certificates to secure data in motion.

As a result, students who still manage to obtain the teacher/professor’s authentication credentials through Malware or Phishing, are unable to use them, since Trusted Device authenticates the laptop, Tablet or Smartphone instead of the user.

With the Trusted Device solution being software based, cost could be significantly reduced when comparing to traditional physical security tokens.

Maintenance wise the solution required around 0.1 FTE to manage once up and running and could also be offered as a managed service by the providing partner.

Since the Trusted Device solution makes use of standards, existing school and university network infrastructure could be re-used, requiring no additional investments.

Additionally the Trusted Device solution scaled sufficiently to allow the 300,000 students in the pilot group to also make use of the solution, allowing for secure read access to their privacy sensitive school files.

There are three video overviews below, the first is an Education overview of the Trusted Device Solution, the second, a Trusted Device overview and costing, the third, a more technical overview of the system as we know your IT department will have questions.
