As the Heat Rises...

As the Heat Rises...
by Nicholas Ashton, CEO, CommSmart Global Group

The heat is on in more ways than one!  Blistering temperatures that cannot be controlled in the weather conditions or in the political rhetoric.  Neither is good for society and only one is absolutely controllable. Politics is in a mode of hatred globally, creating through agitation and 'in your face' opposition.

Now we have societal mayhem!

Open transference of information is the only way society will have vital information which is required, all the facts to see why decisions are being made and implemented.  Give citizens more credit and stop worrying that they cannot handle it!

Stop Dumbing Down People!  There are more intelligent people than you think!

Don't get me wrong, there are idiots on both sides of the fence also.

Why would you ask the advice of citizens and then ignore their answers and wishes?

Do you really think ignoring them is going to get you a gold star in the popularity contest?

People don't want more questions, they want implemented answers, honest answers!  The facts are they can handle it in the majority.  Sure there are those that you can never satisfy or appeased every single time.

Negativity is at the forefront in the public's eyes and it has increased the concerns which are only resulting in violence against each other.

So much has changed, instant information is in overload and comprehending is even more complexed than ever.  You have your opinion, friends comments and then the media spin from a limited collective perspective.  No wonder we have indecisive fearful decision-makers who are afraid of doing their job correctly.

CommSmart Global Group has no fear!

Straight talking is where it is at, in crime-fighting and predictive analytics, which productively enhances law enforcement's capabilities to protect, serve and solve crimes.  It is the proactivity of both of these crime-fighting tools combined with social media interaction that is the proven key!

The Threat Detector States: We Are All Under Various Threats 24/7/365

The Threat Detector States: We Are All Under Various Threats 24/7/365
By Nicholas Ashton, Police Best Practice

The increasing threat of terrorist activities, rising territorial conflicts, and geopolitical instabilities have led to the rise in the demand for threat detection systems. Also, increasing the need for large-scale surveillance systems at public and commercial places is driving the demand for necessary threat detection equipment and ground-level solutions.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) was first used in Germany in 1942. German scientists developed the technology so that they could monitor the launch of V2 rockets. Later, this kind of video surveillance was seen in use in the United States during the testing of Atomic Bombs.

A future in which people are monitored continuously was suggested in George Orwell's 1939 dystopian fiction 1984. And although he may have been off on the date, he was definitely onto something with regards to security cameras. Most of us don’t think anything of video surveillance these days; they’re at the bank, on street corners, even in schools, but cameras weren’t always so ubiquitous.

November 5, 1960: Metropolitan Police in the U.K. used two temporary cameras in Trafalgar Square to monitor “Guy Fawkes Day” activity. 1961: Video surveillance system were installed at a London Transport train station. 1964: Liverpool police experiment with four covert CCTV cameras in the city's center.  Just a few of the early days of uses of this everyday technology.

Continuous auditing of CCTV video footage immensely changes the landscape regarding detect threats. Threat detection does not necessarily have to be real-time, and also does not always need costly equipment. For example, during a daily video footage audit of CCTV, one may detect a survey of facilities by individuals which would help in preventing an eventual threat and incident.

It is not just CCTV; it is a myriad of security measures, even as simple as an overheard conversation, reported documented incidents, and actioned.  A real-time network connection of all staff via information sharing and notification with a device we all carry, the Smartphone.

Now, in 2019 it is necessary and demanded to protect us all, especially with so much unfettered access to public and private facilities.  We must know who wishes to enter our buildings with or without permission or an appointment.  Having the ability to know that someone is who they say they and have a set meeting.  It is your Duty of Care to ensure the safety of visitors, employees, and vendors that have access daily.

Sadly, so many CCTV systems have been installed and forgotten.  They are only referred to when an incident happens, and it is a reactionary ‘after the fact’ cumbersome investigation.  Proactive opportunities are presented daily and are missed, which is costly and deadly.

Video surveillance systems are expected to lead the overall threat detection systems market and are expected to grow at the highest rate between 2019 and 2022.  The increasing need for surveillance at commercial places, hotels, event facilities, casinos, cruise lines, industry premises and public avenues is the prime factor, which is leading the demand for CCTV video footage auditing/surveillance systems. Video surveillance recordings are also used for the investigation purpose in many crime scenarios, which is even driving the market for video surveillance systems.

The threat detection systems market is led by the public infrastructure, which is further segmented into airports, railway stations, sports stadiums, shopping malls, education facilities, religious venues, pilgrimages, and others

The high demand for threat detection devices from airports and shopping malls, especially for explosive detectors, video surveillance systems, and biometric systems, is one of the major factors driving the growth of the threat detection systems market for the public infrastructure application. The commercial sector is the second-largest market, and the threat detection systems market for the commercial industry is estimated to grow at the highest rate between 2019 and 2022.

North America holds the largest share of the threat detection systems market, followed by APAC, Europe followed by Canada and Mexico.

What was lacking was a means to be ahead of the curve, or so it was thought!  Not so, CommSmart Global Group and its partners have had available a CCTV Video Footage Auditing Solution and an Interactive Real-Time Information Sharing Solution that has been successful in use for law enforcement for the last three years.

For the security of all being soft and hard targets, the combination for all commercial operations is here, successful and importantly, an investment you can afford.

An investment you cannot afford not to have!   It is Your Duty of Care Responsibility.

WHY IS NEGATIVITY SURROUNDING US?

WHY IS NEGATIVITY SURROUNDING US?

No matter which way you turn and no matter what the subject matter, NEGATIVITY Abounds!

Opinions are one thing, that is where you allow both sides to discuss the event or situation, not slam your opinion on the table to silence your detractors.

Politics is a prime example, everything but the truth, and never logical solutions. Anytime you attempt to put down your opponent, using force, that by the way seems to be the method of choice, even if it is accurate or untrue!

Community crime never is the communities problem; it is always how the police have or have not handled it.

The media love and embrace negativity, it makes great headlines and the media or so the called journalist, give legs to the lies and encourage the rhetoric which ends in violence.  Those pictures sell news and make profits in the wrong area.

Social Corruption is Alive and Well, Even In the Good Old USA!

How Long Have We All Been
Hiding Behind the Mask of Distrust?

When the riots in the Middle East started, those in the Western world just fobbed it off as a bunch of Arabs and Muslims that were pissed off.  Were they?  Then, the unrest started, firebombs, tear gas and the first person died, then the second and thousands gave their lives for what they believe in.

Now it is a global epidemic!

What do you believe?

Spain… did you ever think that this Western civilized country could be dragged to this?  Who is next?  Are you save from unrest, people protesting in the streets for what they believe is right?  It has happened worldwide in most countries, to the same level.  Maybe not in Liechtenstein or the Hamptons.

I have been on the streets during a riot, back in the late 1970s, in Monrovia, Liberia.  It was Good Friday or bad Friday of the families that lost loved ones that died that day.  More than 70 lost their lives from the police being told to fire over the heads of the protesters.  The majority died of head wounds and the blood run on the streets over the increase in the price of rice.

It is about a human trait that is alive and kicking in all nations, CORRUPTION!

The pulse of the people cannot be ignored by politicians and world leaders. They will not go away and many, in the West, which includes the United States, think they can control the people with empty words and actions.

From a psychological point of view, we must know the Chatter of the Streets, know what the problems are, the concerns and those that are plotting against society. Riots do not just harm the government, it harms and destroys the community where the action takes place. It affects all!

CommSmart Global Group and our teams, understand what is required and has been collecting the pulse of nations, so we can adjust and correct. Yes, sometimes it includes arresting individuals that wish to go too far. Do we not want harmony for all?

It is about true leadership, communications and information to allow us to assist in the direction of our society.

Gathering the information and analytically studying the real-time facts, we have a far better opportunity to adjust and to some extent, control our destiny.

CORRUPTION in countries, municipalities and corporations is controllable…

Listen to the words on the street…

The 243rd Celebration of Losers Day on July 4th… 'Tis The Reason To Be Cheerful or Not?

The 243rd Celebration of Losers Day On July 4th…
'Tis The Reason To Be Cheerful Or Not?

Yes, to Americans, Happy Fourth of July!

To us British, Happy Losers Day!

In 1776 on that fateful day so the story goes, George III did nothing to speak about, drank some port wine, ate bread and cheese, red meat and washed it all down with some local ale and then burped, extremely loudly.

It is said, which I do not believe he wrote in his diary, Nothing of Importance Occurred Today.”

It did!

With the communications of the day, he would not have heard about it for at least a week or two.

George III was not a good or well man, healthwise and really did not care less about the Land of the Not So Free.

It was so taxing to him and in fact, a good cup of tea gave him more pleasure than seeing his Redcoats being shot at by the then, terroristic colonialists.

Nope, no one sent him a Tweet or did he read his Facebook pages from the colonies.  Alexander Graham Bell was not even born yet, so there was no ringing sound in the hallway of the Palace.  AOL did not say, "You've Got Mail"!  Facebook and Twitter were not interrupting every moment of the day.
The Royal corridors were silent...

George III may have thumbed his nose to the colonies, but he sure didn't thumb out a message and possibly do a pathetic “Colbert”!

So July 4th is both a happy and a sad day, depending on which side of the pond you are.  America was born and Great Britain lost a whole continent and its then ongoing problems.

What has happened in these last 243 years?  Certainly not the stability of government or the people in either country.

America today teeters on the edge of liberal anarchy.  Twitter has risen to Presidential levels and both sides of the US elected government cannot agree on the protection and health of the citizens.

Through the use of instant communications and technology, you would have thought we would be in a happier place, sadly we are not!

The We, the People, are not as We, as We think.

243 years ago the message was sent out via horseback and took weeks to filter across the land.  Word of mouth told the tale of the change and a small population had exciting news that they had slipped the reins of the British.

One thing that was the same back then was the simple fact that the disagreement was over taxes!

Today, information may be speeding through our fingers and thumbs around the world, but who is listening?  Who really cares about what goes on in the backrooms of meeting houses or even on the street corners?  We should, as this is where governments are overthrown and the people might not get want they ideally wanted but they have a purpose, a fight if you like.

Revolutions are created by a minority and the majority wonder what has happened.  Ask the Forefathers how and where they planned their release from the Motherland of Great Britain?

So with those facts in mind and what the Chatter of the Streets is really telling us, have a Happy Fourth of July!

Stuff you faces with strange meats, stale chemical bread, weak ale and conversation with folks within your family, which thank goodness, you only have to spend a few days with a year.

Next, it is Thanksgiving and that weird green jello!

Cheers and I raise my glass of craft (Iowa) beer or a cup of British tea, to a future, an unknown future. One that can be bright...

P.S.  We are joining in the celebrations and will be drinking what Americans call American beer, which is like making love in a rowboat if you get my drift!

P.S. Des Moines, Iowa
does have some fantastic craft beers...

WE ARE IN THE NOW
AND KEEP YOU; IN THE KNOW…

How Is Your Liability? Understand Your Duty of Care.

The Duty of Care and
Why You Need to Know

Since 1998 I have been preaching this necessary characteristic of business, life and social understanding, it is our responsibility to others and always a high priority.  Logically you would think everybody would understand the need for this important factor in our society, Your Duty of Care!

The Duty of Care requires everything reasonably practicable to be done to protect the health and safety of others in the workplace and anywhere basically people gather or live. This duty is placed on all employers, their employees and any others who have an influence on hazards, security, and day-to-day activities in a neighborhood, community or workplace.

The latter includes contractors and those who design, manufacture, import, supply or install plant, equipment or materials used within a workplace.
Reasonably practicable means that the requirements of the law vary with the degree of risk in a particular activity or environment, which must be balanced against the time, trouble and cost of taking, measures to control the risk.  It allows the duty of care holder requiring a change in technology and knowledge to be incorporated but only as and when it is efficient to do so.  The duty holder must show that it was not reasonably practicable to do more than what was done or that they have taken reasonable precautions and exercised due diligence.

Specific rights and duties logically flow from the duty of care.  These include:

v  Provision and maintenance of safe plant and systems of work;
v  Safe systems of work in connection with plant substances;
v  Safe working environment and adequate welfare facilities;
v  Overseeing all persons under your care and recording all information regarding their daily care;
v  Information and instruction on the workplace hazards and supervision of employees in a safe workplace;
v  Disaster preparedness planning and testing of such planning;
v  Security of building and glazing from potential attacks or faults;
v  Information flow at a rate that maintains up-to-date records;
v  Simplification of record keeping with major redundancy capabilities;
v  Auditable records that are accessible and checkable in a reasonable timeframe;
v  System that is usable and accessible by all.
The ‘hierarchy of control’ refers to the range of feasible options for managing the risk to health and safety. The hierarchy normally ranges over the following controls: elimination of the hazard; to choose the most efficient means for controlling a particular risk from the range of feasible possibilities.

The qualification allows those responsible to meet their duty of care at the lowest cost.  It also allows substitution with a less harmful version; its redesign; engineering controls; isolation of the hazard from people at the workplace; safe work practices; redesigning work systems; and the use of personal protective equipment and methods by people at the workplace.

This includes all information to make that right decision.  Gathering and analyzing the data to inform and allow management to be “in the know”, enabling correct and precise judgments.  Knowingly ignoring the capabilities of the information that can be collected is placing all in a libelous position.  Failure to recognize the systems and solutions today does not negate responsibility, it is still your Duty of Care.

In practical terms, you as an employer have the obligation to take reasonable care to avoid causing foreseeable harm to another person or his or her property.  The breach of Duty of Care is the failures to take reasonable care to avoid injury or damage to a person or their property in a situation where the law imposes a duty of care.  It is logical and sadly missed every single day in America’s workplace.

Due to the activities of our enemies on September 11th, 2001 the responsibility to protect your business, employees, clients, and members of the public has increased by one hundred fold.  The legal liability is astounding and as any competent lawyer will tell you, you had better have taken measures against such incidents or face the consequences.

In a press release issued January 24th, 2002, Gartner Inc. in The Business Continuity Readiness Survey reports that the areas in which companies and government organizations are least prepared in are the same areas that are most likely to incur loss or damage in physical attacks.  Only 13 percent of companies’ report that they are "mostly" prepared for the major loss of life; 28 percent report business continuity plans for addressing physical attacks; and 38 percent are prepared for the loss of transportation infrastructure. Only 36 percent have a plan for the complete loss of physical assets and workspace.

Chuck Taylor, Gartner EXP vice president, and research director said; "Scenario planning is never a pleasant exercise. However, CEOs owe it to their employees, their families and to shareholders to protect their most valuable assets -- their people -- and to ensure that business can continue even under the extreme circumstances. Business continuity should be on the agenda of every corporate board meeting.''

The Duty of Care can be your best ally or worst enemy.  To make sure all are safe from all eventualities is one thing, but to do nothing at all is total irresponsibility, especially in the field of corporate security or public liability.  The ability to secure your company to the best of your capability is available and at hand.

Today we must document everything, store the information and have at hand for auditors or in the event of a lawsuit, for the legal beagles to sift through in a competent manner.

The instrument used by most to record their daily information is the pen and paper.  It is ubiquitous and carried by all.  Converting that written information to data has never been easier than with the Tracometry Group of Companies and is just part of our circle of fire.

At the heart of our circle is the analytics, the ability to be one step ahead of the bad guys with crime analytics, tracking, Calls for Service, Next Event Predictability, all available in our three level solutions.  Even a 24/7 availability via the Internet for the public of required street level information.  This ties into our community solutions with the Pied Piper Project, rejuvenating communities, removal of social problems, which include utilizing all the laws on the books to spring clean society. Municipalities have monies owed sitting the hallways and streets, court order monies in fines, court charges, and property taxes, we must collect those monies which are in fact owed to the citizens indirectly.

All this in the CommSmart Group, Circle of Fire and it is Your Duty of Care and responsibility.
