Are Employee Thumbs A Risk In Your Business?

Why Social Media Tells Us So Much…
By Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies

It has been stated that HALF of all employees have admitted to writing about the company they work for on a social media website, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, a survey has revealed.

However, a staggering three quarters of those who have written about their company online, either did not know of, or had no guidance from their employers regarding what they could or couldn't write.  The damage of misinformation and an insight of the company is astounding.  Internal information can and will allow others to have such information for use in an illegal manner.  Yes, dubious characters having the inside track!

Your employees and even you are thumbing your way into trouble!

The survey was commissioned by British based company. By monitoring social media and websites, and reprimanding businesses delivering misleading or untruthful marketing messages, they are striving to provide more comprehensive protection for online consumers and the company themselves.

The major concern for companies, revealed by the survey, is that without Social Media guidelines, businesses are potentially leaving themselves wide open to the sharing of proprietary information, security factors and trade
secrets that are being thumbed by their employees’ online activity.

“As ambassadors of your brand, employees need to be made aware and given comprehensive guidance on how to conduct themselves in all situations to protect the overall reputation of the company,” said Nick Ashton, CEO/CTO CommSmart Global.

It is the information that is being “thumbed” by folks that allow very private information to be put into the atmosphere and captured and used by criminals.  Crime Analytics and Next Event Predictability is used by law enforcement to scan all social media for information regarding criminal activity, terrorism and business spying.

Foolishly, thank goodness, people talk too much and share their dirty deeds and some share what they feel is innocent information regarding their company that is a goldmine to a thief.

“As this research reveals, businesses need to be educated about the risks involved when undertaking any information on social media platforms. 84 per cent of people use social networking sites for personal reasons, which can lead to mixed messages and a blurring of the boundaries between work and play. We recommend developing a sound business driven strategy to help deliver clear, successful online communication campaigns,” stated Ashton.

The cleanup has begun, remember, law enforcement is watching too!
