'Tis Christmas... Millennials, Amazon, eBay, Wayfair, UPS, USPS, Fed-Ex & Cardboard Boxes

'Tis Christmas...
Millennials, Amazon, eBay, Wayfair,
UPS, USPS Fed-Ex & Cardboard Boxes

Sure, door to door delivery is fantastic and so convenient for us all, even us old farts!

Luckily we have a package room, shelves laid out for the acceptance of our online shopping.  Don't leave them there day after day cluttering the shelves at the holiday time.  You paid for them to be delivered, collect them!

The companies pack our wants and needs so carefully in cardboard boxes to ensure a safe delivery.  The euphoria of opening those well-sealed containers is amazing like every day is either a birthday or Christmas day all over again.

Once the happiness stops you have to discard the containers.  Sadly most just cart them out to the dumpster of the apartment complex and throw them away, in their original shape, taking up that 'green space' Millennials support and challenge non-treehuggers.

Millennials have no earthly idea that you must break these boxes down so the dumpster takes everyone's boxes, not just their own!

In my opinion, they are the laziest named group that want it all now and don't have to lift a finger to accommodate their fellow man or women.  Just serve it on a plate to me as I am incapable of being part of the whole of society, only in my own little world counts for only me is their banner!

Oh yes, we have some in our building in 'downtown Des Moines'!

They don't understand 'real life', just the Millennial Bubble they float in!

Well, that bubble is bursting and popping, as individuals, neighbors and companies are giving up on you, right, left and center!

Even Applebees got rid of the Millennial menu as it was becoming too much trouble dealing with you all. They are not the only ones, grocery stores are following suit as well.

You are nothing special!  As soon as you understand that the better!

Over salaried individuals with degrees and MBA's have no 'life experience' which counts so much more.

Your social skills basically suck in so many areas of communication!

Even our cat understood the rules of life and knew how to fold boxes.

Yes, it takes time to break them down, I know because I have done it all my life and I understand that we must save space when filling dumpsters.

It is not like your parent's endless supposed money tree!

This is a life lesson on so many aspects of daily life that you need to understand.  Parents did better than this in training you for the 'real world', or did they just give up on you?

The maintenance staff and management do an absolutely fabulous job in dealing in cardboard and recycled crap.

Change, as this is not the only thing you suck at, attitudes of 'I want it all now' is not only getting old, so are you.  It is time to grow up and understand you are not the only ones on the planet!

It is about time, someone voiced the truth about you and stating what others are thinking but dare not say.  You might not like what is being said and think I am just a curmudgeon with nothing better to, wrong!

Success comes with issues and it is how you handle what life throws at you, you can't continue running to Mummy and Daddy, the 'Money Tree' doesn't live forever!

Right In Front of Your Very Eyes...

Operire, the Enemy Within…
by Nicholas Ashton, CEO CommSmart Global group

We have all heard the phrase “The Enemy Within”, never has it been so true today, worldwide.  Of course, the other well-known phrase is, “You Are Your Own Worst Enemy.”  Both are very applicable to worldwide events and especially to American leadership and Public Safety.

When humans are attacked for events they failed to control or happened on their watch, there is an inner chemical that kicks in. In Latin it is Operire, a strange affliction that makes people change the series of events or even what the real truth is.  It has been in existence since time began and it all seems to be getting worse.

Distracting the truth could also be another analogy.  We have perfect examples in politics, local government and panicked officials.  Even public safety officers have been known to suffer from this problem.

If they wish to hide something from everyone, these people, use strong arm tactics to place in front of the public, a lesser problem and emphasize that they will do everything in their power to make change and it will never happen again.  They believe that if your voice is louder in an argument, the louder voice wins, as you have drowned out your opposition, even if you are lying through your teeth.

So wrong and so pathetic, but still a problem.  You see, there are people who believe they, the shouters, can do no wrong.  Why?  The sympathetic listeners have been conditioned, bought or purchased by giveaways and freebies that the shouters have bribed them with over generations.  They have received entitlements which they should never have received as they never earned them, in any way, shape or form.

It is ingrained and part of everyday human action to protect one’s self and so you should, when you are in danger of your life. Not though, when it is to mask the truth as you failed in your actions and caused pain, heartache and even death.

I know, you want examples, they are right in front of your eyes on everyday events.  From lying officials to protect their own reputation, that even includes doctors, police officers, councilors, politicians, government leaders, and presidents.  Even Kings and Queens have used this technique through the centuries and as sharply as the edge of an executioners ax.

Just take yesterday as an example of news and there is every answer I can give you.  I will not tell you every detail, it is for you to decide as you watch your national and local newscasts.

Oh, what is it, this chemical or thing?

In Latin, it is,  Operire

In plain English, it is, Cover-Up!

Our Changing World - Really?

by Nicholas Ashton, CEO/CIO, CommSmart Global Group of Companies

How many times have you heard that it is ‘Changing The World’?  Certainly not always the ‘change for the better’ in all of our eyes.

In business, corporations have to set rules, and these guidelines will change as necessary.  People, opinions, and society have radically changed over the decades, and what was acceptable 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, or 40 years is not acceptable today.

You could say it started when, in 1776, the British were removed from the Americas, and the whole new constitution was signed and still stands, with some amendments today.  There are within this monumental document, Freedoms and Rights, some say that they are not as relevant today, but they are the law of the land.

Indeed, ‘Freedom of Speech’ is one that is in the spotlight.  Is it viewed and used in the same manner as our forefathers placed in the document?

Political correctness has wiggled its way into everyday life, which includes actions and words.  It used to be we could have face to face discussions without getting into each other’s face and having to be pulled apart.

When someone dislikes something, it was settled between those that were disagreeing, and that was it.  Today, with the onset of social media, the world is informed and voices their opinions and comments without knowing the facts.  This causes a finger firestorm of sorts, and all hell breaks loose.  The truth or the ‘real event’ is lost in the thumbing, texting, and Facebook postings.

It is incredible how, in the melee, lies, accusations, and downright falsehoods that are stated, as if they were right.  In fact, statements with no relevance are thrown, just like mud, and they hope it will stick to their social wall of fantasy contention.

False facts or those posted on the Internet of Things, you know, unsocial media, cannot be believed.

The lies posted by bullying miscreants hiding behind their thumbs, Smartphones, computer screens, and tablets fuel the fire.  People, like sheep, follow what they believe is true, it is not.

It is time to be SMART!

From a corporate point of view, your employees and leaders must understand the way of the world today regarding communications.

Reactionary statements always lead to a more explosive issue.  Although we must empower our staff, we must have a set of diversity and cultural rules of engagement.

Yes, there is a demanded requirement for training and setting corporate rules.  It does not matter what business you are conducting, the perception of the public can be broken by a single incident which becomes headlines in seconds globally.

Your legal department must assure all, including the shareholders, that the rule book is current and has been explained to all and not just once!

Cultural and diversity training is not a hiring stipulation that all employees attend when they join you.  It is on-going and revised continually.  That is why you have ‘Outside Change Agents’ present and train your staff.  Remember, you never really listened to your parents, but you look to an outsider…

Every company is on stage in the spotlight, no matter what they do.  The staff represents the company in all its actions.  Including posting statements out of work hours on their personal social media accounts.

The Walt Disney Corporation is a prime example of maintaining their image in the public’s eye, and they even have issues.  From a liability point of view, you must train and retrain on diversity and cultural situations.

The Result of Drive-By Policing!

The Result of Drive-by Policing!

Policing is not what it use to be, it fails all too often.  Community policing is outdated as those that are assigned the sectors, beats and problem communities, are not really policing.  You cannot just drive-by and decide that you are not bothered or it will be too much trouble.  This is the Millennial cop of today, which we have created!

It is a time of 'lost data', failed officer reporting, which does not have to be.

We are eight or nine years behind the times and have lost the momentum of society, which in itself has crumbled into an aggressive decline.

Criminality which goes unchecked only grows and takes over neighborhoods, communities, and specific streets.  'No-Go-Zones' which through officer blindness grow and grow until the ability to address is removed. It becomes a 'Fear-Factor' Syndrome that will only be solved if you attack with multiple actions, which the media and public do not understand and misreport.

The Metropolitan Police's Commissioner, Cressida Dick stated that London alone has 180 violent gangs dominating communities, how disgusting and pathetic is that for the failure of policing?

She states that the crime tide is turning, it is not, she is no King Canute, which we know he failed to turn the tide!

Moped riders who attack individuals, stealing smartphones etc. are now being pursued by police cars, if they do not stop, the officer rams them with their cars to stop them.  A good start, fight fire with fire, that is all these criminals will understand.

Every single violation that you can use against these criminals must be used, sure, harass them, until they understand that crimes do not pay.

You cannot allow the drug dealers, hookers and gangs have control, but you are!  Turning a blind eye turns communities into 'hellholes'. Examples are in every global city and those that have the Millennial DNA who have been promoted for the wrong reason and not by civil service promotional guidelines are the issue.

What happened to the Nine Peelian Principles?

If you don't know them or ever read them and you are in law enforcement, shame on you!

The likes of every top cop know these Nine Peelian Principles.  If they don't, they better start reading, they are the key to successfully bringing back policing that the public demands and deserves.

Commissioner Bill Bratton calls them the 'Police's Bible', they are!

'The Police are the People and the People are the Police .'  Remember that simple one of the Principles and understand that Sir Robert Peel, back in 1829 when he invented policing knew what he was talking about.

Start policing as it should, look back at history and stop making these mistakes over and over again.  Never let history repeat itself, it kills people and an organization that once was great and can be again!

Thanksgiving is Just Another Hacking Day

Happy Thanksgiving...
Thanksgiving is Just Another Hacking Day
by Nicholas Ashton

Hackers do not take days off!  In fact, they increase their efforts around the Holidays.  Especially those that shop online today and this Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

The BBC reported:

"Cyber-thieves are preparing malware and spam campaigns in a bid to catch out retailers and shoppers during the run-up to Christmas, experts say.

One gang had updated the sophisticated malware it used to target cash registers in stores, security company iSight said.

There had also been an increase in spam and phishing emails crafted to catch out people seeking bargains.  You know what it like, you get wacky emails every single day, you may ignore, others do not.

And some crime groups are making fake copies of popular shopping apps in a bid to steal payment-card data.  beware, they are that good!

The warnings are being given just prior to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which follow the weekend following the US Thanksgiving holiday when many online and offline stores offer those special and not so special deals."

Time to be more vigilant on all fronts...

Also, beware of the green jello!

Happy Thanksgiving and pass the password, please....

What Is It About Fridays?

What Is It About Fridays?

Well, this Friday:

  • US Election is over, or is it?
  • North Korea is still an issue
  • British Government cannot leave the EU
  • People are being stabbed all over the globe
  • UK policing is non-existent
  • Trump haters are breeding like rabbits, but then we eat rabbits!

Do you feel it, experience it?  Is it a mass change in attitude on the sixth day of the week?

Is it like a wind-down day when nothing really gets done?

Or are you, like me, treat this day as an extra effort day?

Is it more relaxed or does the adrenalin pump for the freedom from work for Saturday and Sunday?  In fact, the weekend exposes more physical energy being released on personal projects than you realize.  No wonder Monday mornings are the reversal of Fridays.

What is the atmosphere this Friday?  Do the news and talking points of society dominate the workspace? Maybe not, our minds are on the clock for it to tick faster and get the hell out of Dodge!

Right?

Where are your mind and opinions today?

Has this been a week of negativity and concern?  Is it time to gather the family and discuss the issue of our social demise?

Life this weekend is not the same as last is it?

Do some thinking, it will change your life!

We Are Not IBM or a Data Silo...

So Why Are You So Resistant To Change
and Not Listening To The Solutions?

I was on the telephone yesterday to Great Britain, talking to a street level officer in the British Police.  The subject matter was the same old same old, resources and how police management is chasing their own tails, wasting efforts and accomplishing limited results at great expense monetarily and letting the public down.  After all, the public is your client and you must protect and serve.

Why is there such a resistance in the getting it right the first time? Fixing the problem a second and third time costs you even more money, additional wasted time and frustration coming out of the ying-yang.

Preceptive Intelligence is not asking you to spend millions and millions on developing a new principle of law enforcement strategy, we have already accomplished this proven solution to the problem.

We are not IBM or some sort of computer data silo that just understands numbers and data flow.  We are a down to earth, a street-level company who have a majority of law enforcement individuals at the heart of the company.  The knowledge of the crime-ridden streets, from pounding the sidewalks, challenging the criminal and seeing for ourselves the illogical methods we are still using.  Developing our crime analytical solutions, tracking, calls for service data and next event predictability has taken twenty years.

Today, we are second to none in crime-fighting solutions, passionate in the success and cost-effective as a solution.  In other words, you can afford the investment!

Perceptive Intelligence has gone down that route and used our own monies, expertise and created a service being used today by over 500 agencies, other countries outside of the USA and as a sole source provider under contract with the Department of Defense (DoD), making a vital difference in saving thousands of lives in the war on terror.

It seems managerial logic has been locked away in the deepest prison cell as it is not willing in the understanding of the benefits of a constructive crime-fighting solution.  It is about management of limited resources and not chasing your own tail and disappearing within.  Productive results for you and the people you protect and serve

I know, some of you hear the words computers and analytics and you head for the door, saying that is not what policing is all about.  Yes, it is!  We have made it so simple, I do not care what your expertise is with a keyboard.  It is down to earth logic and it will be your criminal analysts that will set up the main system, but even that has been made easy.

Why am I saying it this way?  Simple, through research initiative, we looked back and found this comments from the U.S. Department of Justice, a document on Perspectives on Policing.

Twenty years ago, January 1993 Issue 14 states:

Many American police departments feel themselves to be slowly drowning in a rising tide of serious crime and calls for service. Over the last decade, department workloads have risen steadily while their resources have stayed constant or often I declined.' Police executives generally have responded by striving to enhance the efficiency of police operations and focus police resources on only the more serious calls.
Computer-aided dispatching and other information systems have been employed to make the most of the patrol force, and many departments no longer respond at all to nuisance calls or provide services like escorts and house checks that the public once took for granted.

Nonetheless, police in many cities find themselves more and more pressed, a problem recently greatly exacerbated--even in smaller communities-by unprecedented increases in drugs and violence.

It is thus understandable that many departments find calls for community policing unrealistic. As most police-and most mayors-understand the concept, community policing means taking on difficult new responsibilities, like fighting fear and solving community problems, using fresh tactics like foot patrol and community organizing. What room could there possibly be to do new jobs when the department can scarcely do the old ones?

Mayor Bud Clark of Portland, Oregon, was a community policing enthusiast when he took office in 1985, but he saw no place for the new strategy in what both he and the police agreed was a short-handed, overworked department. "Community-oriented policing means less relying on heavy-handed law enforcement and more getting at root causes," said Chuck Duffy, a Clark aide. "But we recognized the fact that you can't do it well unless you have an adequate level of police officers, because you've got to do the community outreach stuff with police on top of your base of patrol officers, and we were having trouble with our base."

Such sentiments are often, and understandably, expressed by police and municipal officials. They are the sum of four widely held beliefs about contemporary policing (until recently, nearly universally held). One is that the public demand for police services, particularly for 911 rapid-response services, is largely out of police control. The second is that departmental resources are, in the main, already deployed to the best advantage, efficiently and effectively. The third is that community policing (like other new policing strategies such as problem-oriented policing) is a discretionary add-on to the core job of policing. Because it is seen as "soft," aimed more at community and public relations than at crime control, it is often delayed and resisted when crime and workloads are on the rise.

(In other words, the real job of policing is traditional enforcement, and departments should not be distracted from that mission.) The fourth belief is that police resources, meaning police department budgets, are largely static, particularly in the current climate of fiscal constraint. The largest gains a department can hope to make, on this line of thinking, are still small-an improvement in patrol deployment here, a few extra positions there. Improvement in patrol deployment here, a few extra positions there. It is no surprise that the police find large increases in calls for service, or striking new challenges like the crack epidemic and waves of youth violence, very difficult to meet.

Increasingly, however, there is a reason to believe that none of these four beliefs is true. The concrete experience of numerous innovative police departments-including Portland, which found ways to move into community policing despite resource constraints-is proving otherwise. The police can, in fact, manage public demand and expectations for police services. They can deploy their current resources in new and improved ways.

They can use community and problem-solving policing strategies to achieve ambitious crime-control objectives. And they can find and win new resources, budgetary and otherwise, to help them do their various jobs. These are fundamental, not marginal, gains; they hold out the hope of major advances in the struggle to fight crime and improve the quality of life in troubled cities.

It is the ability to be predictive of the use of resources that we have focused on, what we call Next Event Predictability.  It is revolutionary in catching serial criminals and utilizing your restricted resources, in a manner that expands your capabilities of success.

So where do we stand?  The evidence in front of your eyes, on your weekly reports and the frustration, is abundant in your crime statistics.  Let us assist you in making the change, book a webinar, bring your management and street level officers and let’s share the information that will make a radical difference.
