Atmospherics? The Key To Successful Security...

Atmospherics?

No, it is nothing to with whether you need an umbrella or not!  In the military and law enforcement, we could not live or succeed without it.  Here is the reason why!

Let’s look at the general concept of Atmospherics and consider our social networks, communications, and modern living arrangements.

Today, our social atmosphere is dominated by the "silent language" of wireless networks and digital communications which are ever changing and it is not uncommon to see couples or groups of individuals sitting together but totally involved in their personal cell phone, ignoring the presence of the others.

Recent research studies have discovered the importance of other silent languages such as body, temporal, and spatial languages in our social interactions and practitioners in all fields have continued to try and understand and exploit their uses, including in criminal investigations and interrogations.

WHAT THEN IS ATMOSPHERICS USAGE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT?

Everything!  If we consider a working definition of the concept of atmosphere as the social “silent language” of a geographical, political, social or criminal circles that can transmit and contain communications that describe the attitudes, feelings, ideas, and intentions, of those within or apart of those circles, then it is absolutely tantamount, that Law Enforcement understand and analyze this portion of the social dialogue to effectively respond to and prevent crime and terrorism in this modern dynamic, silent atmosphere.  If this source of information is routinely missing from your department's planning and response to developing a method of operations, conducting investigations, developing community relations and intelligence gathering then you are only dealing with a small part of the evidence/fact acquiring equation.  This also has colossal implications for community policing and problem-solving activities within our communities as a data gathering and analytical tool.

What does this mean for law enforcement?

Drastic changes in law enforcement are needed and demanded in leadership, technical expertise and the understanding and use of analytics, in the wake of hazardous political decisions on immigration and homegrown terrorism globally.  Political decisions to accept high-risk populations and refugees into their countries without an appropriate, effective and balanced measures and tools to mitigate these high risks, has left law enforcement helpless to respond to the influx of potential terrorist and the subsequent frequent terrorist acts that we are witnessing in Europe, America, and the Middle East.  In effect, law enforcement agencies were caught without a game plan and their effectiveness was reduced in this new environment to just what they were accustom to doing---responding to incidents and conducting investigations in the wake of many lives being lost.

This doesn’t have to continue!

It is the proactivity which in turn decreases the cost of operations and a harmony within when successes are at the forefront for all.

Today, recognizing this void of information, CommSmart Global Group has built upon our successes in analytics, proprietary predictions formulas and includes social monitoring techniques developed for military uses in Iraq/Afghanistan and expanded our atmospherics to include social media monitoring, crime analytics, mapping and predictive analysis, added to the existing street level human collection tactics enables greater accuracy and completeness in intelligence gathering activity.

Predictive analysis and crime-solving activity have become more effective when the totality of criminal justice information, social media monitoring, the media, and big data sources are integrated and considered together.  Our data sources focus on what is happening in the streets now, who is doing what with who, where they gather, and the subject of interests, so our customers do not have to wait for something to happen to develop a response plan.

In Phoenix, Arizona, we contributed to the apprehension of the Bearded Bank Robber by providing probable dates and locations of the next robbery to the local and federal authorities working the case based solely on information published in the media.  When they scoffed at the prediction and the robber hit on one of the days and at one of the locations predicted, they asked if we could do it again.  We recalculated based on the new information and this time they took our predictions seriously and were able to stake out the locations on the dates given and apprehended the robber before entering the bank.  This was using only media information, and yes the predictions are not exact, but what if we could nail down a couple of days and some locations for you, routinely.  The potential for preventing specific crimes is near.

Developed in war zones CommSmart Global Group has honed and expanded the effectiveness and success of these analytic tools, making us all Street Smart.

The key concept requiring further examination is that of the atmosphere. Social Media Monitoring is an absolute key today, but categorically useless, unless you have vast data repositories to analyze, both public and of local, regional and national crime data from the arrests and events, that we have and our clients can have access to.

Additionally, there is few comprehensive, police information sharing consortiums in existences, even after 9-11, that share local police contact data (non-biometric), integrated with RMS/CAD, Jail booking and Criminal Histories (biometric based) together. To build these systems and participate in multi-agency networks have taken years and many millions of dollars and an exorbitant amount of time to develop.

In the US, San Diego County in California has such a system and it was started in 1980 called the Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS) and it's still developing and adding a new query and analytical features.  How long can we continue to take this approach of avoidance or waiting for our public leaders or someone else pushes and to implement the next generation of information sharing and predictive analytics?  The cost to build this system would be prohibited in today’s market even if you could find and trust a vendor who could build it.

CommSmart Global Group, a LexisNexis Risk Solutions Partner has decades of law enforcement background with Change Agents, Cybercrime Analysts, ex-London Metropolitan Police Officers, Chiefs of Police and Sheriff Commanders on staff, including the former San Diego Commander, who was tasked to develop ARJIS.

Our involvement in counter-terrorism and cybercrime internationally allows us to think and act with the confidence demanded in these dire times.  We understand all concerns, methodology and speak the right language to you all.
Our solutions are available now and will be discussed via telephone with established law enforcement agencies.  Call or email us for verification.  Then, we can discuss and demonstrate.  Oh, have a cup of coffee at hand, afterward, you will understand why.

The Siberian Hamster Owner Is No More... Manuel, Knows Nothing...

The Siberian Hamster Owner Is No More...
Manuel, Knows Nothing...
by Nicholas Ashton, CEO/CIO, CommSmart Global Group - Virtual Crime Center

Those who never viewed Fawlty Towers or Farty Towels, Know Nothing!

This week we lost the most well-known migrant from Barcelona, Spain, Manuel of the short comedy series 'Fawlty Towers, written by John Cleese and Connie Booth.

The Siberian Hamster was Manuel's ''Basil the Rat" and the last in the series. If I sound like I was well connected with the BBC series, I was, with the millions who laughed our asses off for the twelve only episodes, which by the way, I own!

Manuel played by the beloved Andrew Sachs, who passed on this week, was an immigrant who was put down each week by his boss in the most outrageous ways and we all laughed.

Bullied beyond belief and we found it funny.  Immigrants whether legal or illegal are ill used, mistreated and live in fear.  They should not!

Britain, and America were and are built on immigrants who came to these lands and toiled to make them what they are today.  Sadly, they are not as pleasant as some people think and most misuse information on immigrants is swept under the carpet.

Illegal immigrants are a concern as the headlines and police reports show us. The borders of the USA are compromised each and every day as these people flow freely across the non-existent wall. Including drug dealers and potential terrorists.

Great Britain has suffered and continued with immigrants which the European Union states they must accept.  British law enforcement will tell that once this free flow of European immigrants started, crime on the streets changed radically, rape, sexual crimes, human trafficking, drugs, knifings and petty crime, such as pick-pocketing increased beyond understanding.  British police introduced the 'Stab Vest' for all officers, that is how bad it was and still is.

I digress from our famous migrant, Manuel, (Andrew Sachs), we love you admired your capabilities as an actor we loved and you have left a glowing mark on us all.

 'I Know Nothing...'    Thank you.

Hindsight is 20/20 - I Owe & Make an Apology

Hindsight is 20/20
I Owe & Make An Apology
by Nicholas Ashton, CEO/CIO, CommSmart Global Group - Virtual Crime Center

Stepping backward with reflection on all our actions takes a time to review, understand why we say things and in most and in this case, the passion and personal reasoning for the original comment or comments.

Firstly I apologize to you all and especially those that I directed my annoyance with.

A very personal incident by an individual, who already has been guilty on the charge of criminal trespassing when he dognapped his ex-wife's dog.  He has further criminal charges pending and a 'protection order' hearing which was more that a 'fuster cluck' on all sides.  My last comment still stands, but my apology is how I reacted.  I have stepped back and will see how it is dealt with but remove myself as a competent witness of the incident which I stand firm on.

In all events, a lesson was learned and when passion and closeness is a factor there is no excuse for a rant and rave party on individuals.

To that, I repeat my profuse apology to all, who have received a direct email on this.

WE have a job to do and are involved in an industry that has more problems than my personal rant, I hope you forgive me for taking this important issue, time and space to apologize.

R's

The Marx of a Man

The Marx of a Man
By Nicholas Ashton, CEO/CIO, CommSmart Global Group

Little Havana is cheering as most in Cuba are silent.  Still, the fear of Fidel Castro is maintained.

The announcement of his death is being greeted globally in a mixed manner and since 1959 Fidel Castro gripped and crushed a people with his Marxist and Lenin ideology.  Going to Havana is going back in time as if the clocks just stopped.

Most Americans associate Cuba with Cigars, Rum, Communism and that place, 90 miles off the Florida Keys that is off limits.  The cigars were the ‘forbidden fruit’ and ruined decades ago with the planting of more sugar cane where tobacco leaves once grew.

I know my cigars and the influences from the soil, wind, and surroundings.  Castro even ruined the taste of a once great tobacco leaf.

With the last name ‘Ashton’ those that know cigars can imagine my favorite brand and leaf that burns inches from my nose with an aroma that is so exquisite. A taste of a true quality cigar.

Cuba has been cultivating a new breed of political puppets and now you will see the extended revolution bring forth more issues.  Not even the trade deal that has just been agreed upon will work whilst there is still a Castro in power and his sidekicks ready to step in and emulate Fidel.

The King of Communism is dead and a true deplorability continues with oppression, arrests, imprisonment and executions will be maintained by a sadistic island government, supported by the likes of Venezuela, Russia, and China.

The challenge of change is still upon us to have a ‘free’ island if that is ever possible.

“I Am Too Busy For This” - “I Don’t Have Time!” You Will Regret These Comments When “When” Happens!

“I Am Too Busy For This” - “I Don’t Have Time!”
You Will Regret These Comments When “When” happens!
By Nicholas Ashton, CEO/CIO, CommSmart Global Group

Tunnel vision, wearing blinkers and ignorance come to mind.  How many times can you ignore facts and events that are headlines and the talk of the water cooler?

Thievery, stealing, entering places that they shouldn't in be has been around since time began.  To come home and find that your space has been violated is the most gut wrenching feeling, to know that some stranger has been in your bedroom, bathroom, stolen your computer, X-box, televisions and the dog.

Really, it is not that funny, because the money you have been spending every month on that alarm system did what? It told you that someone had broken in, it did not stop them or even frighten them when that obnoxious alarm went off.  The security center was informed electronically and then what did they do?  They called you to see if there was a problem!  Duh!

The next step, they informed the police that an issue was reported from your address.  Time has been ticking by, the thieves have left with your stuff and now the problems for you begin.  Clearing up the mess, you know they leave a mess, canceling bank cards, informing the insurance company and trying to remember what you had and what is missing is a nightmare!

Today, it is even simpler to violate your space!  Every one of us is connected, forget Six Degrees of Separation, that cable, phone or wireless connection has joined us all together, the Internet.

The thieves sit in comfortable chairs either at home, in a hacking commune or the local Starbucks unsociable café, where tattoos and metal studs are compulsory. They can get into your stuff from anywhere, even Mumbai or Moscow.

Hacking, Phishing and MITM (Man in the Middle) Brutal Attacks draw no boundaries, Fortune 500 companies, local independent outlets, Big Box department and electronic stores, manufacturing, restaurant chains, courier services, airlines, law enforcement data, government, county and city information and even your car are game and do not forget your Laptop, Desk PC or Mac, Tablet or Mobile phone.

In fact, any Data in Motion is a Target!

It is exacerbated by the cost saving usage of your own laptop, tablet or smartphone, known as BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).  Companies want to save money and being able to use your electronics saves a fortune, but comes with problems.

It is the personal “stuff” you store on the device and where you visit on the Web that can pick up viruses and infections which are transmitted to your connections if they have no protection in place.  Protection is simple, well in some cases for some of you, seriously you should not start on page 43 of the manual!

Life is not simple and security of your information is yours and yours alone. That is your brick wall, what others do to protect the information they have been supplied by you is their responsibility and you only hope they are good at doing that.

Socially life is a mess and in using social media they way most use it, you are a walking time bomb for a major issue.

Investigatory Powers Act Has Royal Assent - The 10th Peelian Principle - Add the A.I. Proven Technology To Peel's Other Nine Peelian Principles

Investigatory Powers Act
The 10th Peelian Principle
Add the A.I. Proven Technology To
Peel's Other Nine Peelian Principles
by Nicholas Ashton, CEO/CIO. CommSmart Global Group

watch the video

Investigatory Powers Act has Royal Assent and legalizes range of tools for snooping and hacking by the security services and enables far better crime fighting and security.

CommSmart Global Group has the Analytic Tools, NOW for your use Nationally.
  • Social Media Monitoring
  • Crime Analytics
  • Community Crime Mapping
  • Predictive Analysis
  • SIP (Stop, Interview, Process) with facial recognition
  • Full Link analysis of all crime and public data.
Breaking all boundaries and lines between agencies.

Total Link Analysis in one search.  No more 'Go Fishing' for information!  One search nationwide, agency to agency, county to county, all forces connected.

Great Britain could be totally interlinked within nine months and at a fraction of your own development costs.

Literally the price of a cup of coffee per warranted officer per week.

Donuts, Bagels, and Croissants are extra!

All levels of officers will have conductivity and radically change law enforcement as we know it today!

Peel was ahead of his time thank goodness, he visualized the outcome of the streets if we did nothing to stem crime and how it was the public's needs that were required to stop the diabolic issues.

Hence, the Nine Peelian Principles were born when he was Home Secretary of the U.K. in 1829.

We do not need to plead the 5th to protect ourselves, we need to invoke!

Today Amber Rudd is now the Home Secretary and is continuing the needs for Digital Policing and can invoke the 10th Peelian Principle Amendment.

You cannot start from scratch, or attempt to re-invent the wheel, the government must look and engage commercial enterprise which has already been twenty years plus into the digital analytic world of proactive policing.

From the days of Sir Robert Peel, some 187 years ago Peel used then modern capabilities of awareness, with the tall hat, the whistle to communicate and his street-level knowledge of the increasing criminal elements on the streets of London.

Peel did not make the hat or engineer the whistle, he used what was available and proven at the time.  Of course, Peel’s people oversaw the availability and standard of the purchases and what and why they were the choice, he did not in any way re-invent the wheel so to speak.

Peel used commercial enterprise to achieve his goal, security of the public and control the out of control situation of the moment.

There is no argument that we must improve and improve now!  Criminals have so much more in their technology savvy felonious toolbox.  It is not just picking up information by physically sitting in a smoke-filled pub, supping beer and listening to the criminals bragging about their criminal deeds.

Today, it is about technology, the social or unsocial media, running their fingers and thumbs instead of their mouths.

This is the Atmospherics of our world, yes CommSmart Global Group, a LexisNexis Risk Solutions Partner, has decades of collecting and analyzing both public and law enforcement data that is amassed in its billions of records daily.

Crime is not restricted to a four-block area of streets, it is national and global, we have developed with our qualified teams of ex-Metropolitan Police officers, ranging from Chief Superintendents, Chief Inspectors, Commanders, Flying Squad, Counter Terrorism, Beat/Ward Officers and incredible data analysts.  They have worked hand in hand in developing methods of collection and drill down analytics with successes, second to none on a daily basis.
  • Social Media Monitoring of individuals that comply with all legal ramifications of those individual users (countries)
  • Crime Analytics, knowing the beat/ward historically and what to be cognizant about and the attributes
  •  Community Crime Mapping, both public and internal
  • Predictive Analysis, having analysts who use our techniques to be ahead of the curve with proactive policing
  • Beat/Ward officers having the ability to use Smartphones/Laptop and Desktop computers to see so much more in a productive time frame.
  • Multi-Jurisdiction analytics.  Agencies are now working in silos and criminals are using this to exploit more criminal opportunities.  There is no need any longer to work singularly trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.  We have the solutions to allow all agencies to work together efficiently and cooperatively.

If it sounds like we are being braggadocios about our capabilities, we are not
We only bring you the facts that we wish to work side by side with solution tools and mindset of major proportions.  It is the CommSmart Global Group which is an American company which is made up of mostly Brits and ex-cops, working within law enforcement proactive techniques, analytics, cyber security, and coaching/mentoring since 1992.

Then there is LexisNexis, owned by another British company, RELX Group. It is a multinational information and analytics company based in London, in the United Kingdom. It operates in four market segments: scientific, technical and medical; risk and business analytics and legal.

LexisNexis Group is a corporation providing computer-assisted legal research as well as business research and risk management services. During the 1970’s, LexisNexis pioneered the electronic accessibility of legal and journalistic documents.

We are a commercial enterprise who collectively have invested in data collection from the streets to the war zones of the world to protect us all.  Whether it be the community, as the ‘police are the public and the public are the police’, or the war in Afghanistan, with the ability to predict the location of roadside IEDs for the US Department of Defense, saving hundreds, if not thousands of lives.

We are here now!  Working with knowledge of British Policing and data manipulation for a proactive result.

I believe we should be meeting with you all.  It is with senior management and departments who have been charged to create a solution.  Which by the way is already here and will assist in the demands of the community and government.

We are all on the same page and need to be in the same room for a down-to-earth conversation on the capabilities of Digital Policing now and in the future.

It is not about who or what we are, it is about solving a dire situation and it is no good asking where policing will be in 2025, if you do not listen, review and understand what is already here in the Atmosphere!

A meeting, please…

It takes Social Media Monitoring, Public Data, Crime Analytics, Community Crime Mapping, Predictive Analysis and a strong listening ear.  It is not about marketing services, it is about the passion we have for making our social world more acceptable, safer and this we commit to you.

WE ARE IN THE NOW AND KEEP YOU; IN THE KNOW...
